Woodford Halse

Walk : WAW 025

And this, high up on the end of the house opposite the school is a fire mark, one of the plates issued by insurance companies in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

It was an indication to firemen attending a fire, should there be such an occurrence, that the premises were insured and their payment for attending the fire, was assured and so there was no need to negotiate a figure for their services.
