Woodford Halse
Walk : WAW 103
Opposite the restaurant is what is known as Woodford Green, but it is not really a Village Green as it was the corner of a field, known as Checkleys Close, bought to build the Woodford Halse estate in 1898.
The field corner was given to the Rural District Council by the owners of the Woodford Halse Estate Company at about 1909 and it subsequently passed to the County Council.
It is listed, quite wrongly, as a Village Green in a book published in 1969, entitled “The Common Lands of England and Wales”.
