Walk : WAW 038

Further down, on the right-hand side of the road, is the Fleur‑de‑Lys, the only public house in the village.

The land on which the sign stands and the car-park adjoining was probably the Village Green in the olden days.

It is said that at a Parish Council meeting in September 1909, complaint was made that letting the Green near the Fleur‑de‑Lys was causing a nuisance and the Council decided to discontinue letting it to stall holders and to ask the District Council to widen the road at that point.

The minute book recording this has been lost, but the author was told this by a one-time chairman of the Parish Council.
