WOODFORD HALSE

DEATH OF MRS. C. W. Ward.—A gloom was cast over the village on Friday last, when it became known that Mrs. Ward, wife of Mr. C. W. Ward, the postmaster, had passed away.

The deceased was well–known in the district, having resided there for several years, and was thoroughly respected, she having the good word of everyone with whom she came in contact. She was of a bright disposition, and will greatly be missed.

In his great grief Mr. Ward has the sympathy of all parishioners.

The body of the deceased was interred at Leeds on Tuesday. the sad procession wended its way to the station at six o'clock in the morning. The coffin was carried shoulder high, the bearers being members of the Church of England Men’s Society, of which Mr. Ward is a prominent member. The body was followed by a goodly number of members of the society, and other friends, the procession although early in the morning, gaining in numbers as it proceeded.

At the station the coffin, which was completely covered with most exquisite wreaths, was reverently placed in the van of the train which leaves at 6.40, en route for Leeds.
